Commanders Coach Accepts Responsibility for Keeping Jayden Daniels in Contest Before Significant Harm

The Commanders head coach Dan Quinn has admitted he bears a portion of the blame for a major injury to the squad’s quarterback, Jayden Daniels.

Details of the Harm and Context

Daniels, who enjoyed among the best first-year performances of all time last season, suffered a dislocated left elbow in Sunday’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Even though the quarterback passes with his right arm, the injury has placed his season uncertain. The injury was significant enough that the television broadcast did not show replays and multiple players looked away as Daniels was attended to by medical staff.

Backlash and Coach’s Response

Quinn came under scrutiny as numerous felt Daniels should not have been on the field in the first place. The incident happened in the final period with the Commanders trailing 38-7, rendering a comeback improbable. It is common in such circumstances for clubs to insert their backup quarterback to prevent injuries to their starter.

“I get that. I’ve been reflecting about it constantly, too, and, wow, I erred,” Quinn remarked of his decision to keep Jayden in the game. “That is 100% on me.”

Fallout and Team Outlook

Marcus Mariota will be the team’s primary QB going forward, but he will lead a roster in turmoil. Following reaching the conference title game the prior year behind the rookie’s excellence, the team have faced difficulties currently. They also lost cornerback Lattimore (ACL tear) and pass-catcher Luke McCaffrey (collarbone fracture) on game day, and have a host of other key players on the injury list. The Washington squad are three wins and six losses on the season, and it would require a huge turnaround for the team to make the playoffs.
